Healing is a combination of medical, mental, spiritual, and heart re-integration. For both survivors and supporters, you have a big hand in helping yourself heal. Here's just one way you take back your power to heal.
Here's the challenge: Write down everything you like to do, everything that makes you happy. Set aside 5 minutes for this activity. Grab some paper or your computer (paper is preferable). Choose a quiet, uncluttered, and private space.
Close your eyes. Take 5 breaths by breathing in through your nose and breathing out your mouth twice as long. For example, I count to four slowly breathing in through my nose, then control my exhale by pursing my lips and counting to eight. Find the rhythm that's most comfortable to you.
Focus on your breath only. When other thoughts cross your mind, acknowledge them and left them drift off by returning your attention to your breath.
After the fifth breath open your eyes. Start writing down everything and anything you love. I mean anything. Write it down however you like, just make sure to write it down.
Think about what you loved to do as a child, especially those things where you were so engrossed you lost track of time and your surroundings.
When you get stuck, think about your senses: see, hear, taste, feel, smell.
When you're done choose one of your loves and do it today or schedule it within the week. Mark it on the calendar when you complete it by placing a sticker or a message!
